My Family is going away for two days at Great Wolf Lodge and I felt like I had to say no to not go with.

Nobody is here to care for my cats who are elderly and leaving a feeder out isn't enough.
The other part is every time I went away with them they always complained how I hold them up and I'm too picky about where I eat, I don't have money to do things I want, and I'm never considered and can't actually relax and enjoy myself they rush me around with everything.

So I'm just going to stay home and do nothing, and nobody cares I said no, guess they really didn't want me there!

Keith ...

A long time ago, I figured out that my rhythm just didn't match my birth family's rhythm and we were always out of step. When we went places together, it just wasn't fun for any of us. When I stayed home alone, I was at peace because it was MY choice. They had more fun because they didn't have to deal with my being out of step with them.

In the long run, it made all of us happier.

What I am trying to say, it's possible that you are viewing this choice in a negative way, when, actually, you are making a very wise choice for both you and your family. Take a step back and look at it differently. When you change your expectations, you can change how you feel about the outcome.

Just what I was thinking
I would jump for joy at the solitude and not having the stress of that "out of sync" you describe

Nothing worse than being out of my space doing and being where I don't want to be.

I don't mean to be rude Keith but I have to repeat what that therapist told me when I was in my early 20's. If you are over 18 years old, what do you need a family for? If they are toxic, if they make you unhappy, for whatever reason you choose... pick yourself up and figure out a way to move out and move on with your life. No one is worth feeling bad about yourself, not even your parents. You have no control over how they behave the only control you have is how you respond to it. If you are a 'glass half empty' then you will suffer, if you can turn yourself into a 'glass half full' you can make a life that you want and that makes you happy. It's all up to you, it has very little to do with anyone else.

I can attest to that. I actually tried a little of that this weekend when we went home to MIL funeral. Mother was ticked off, but it sure made me feel good. I mean come on, your not going to tell us when we need to leave the reception and so forth. This is my husbands Mother, and I just could not let Her control when and how long we could spend with his family.
We had a great family reunion afterwards, sent her to the moon that she wasnt there, but after 38 years of marriage, she is just going to have to swallow that she is not our everything, as far as family is concerned.
It hit me this weekend, just like kids, I can still love Mother, just hate the things she does. I shall let the good Lord take care of the rest.

I agree

You really can't make anyone else change ... you can only change your own behavior and expectations.

That's a good point Rose- Keith, look at it as if they were your friends inviting you. You would still have to consider what to do about your cats, as they are your responsibility, not your friends or your family's.

And then step back and take a look at yourself, and see if their comments might possibly be justified. Do you hold them up by being slow? Maybe its not deliberate on your part but subconscious?
Do you try to be part of the group, or do you try to do your own thing when the majority tries to do something else as a group? You can't have it both ways, you can either go along and try to enjoy yourself or go your own way once you are at the destination. If that's the case, just arrange to meet them at a certain place and time. I go to fairs and exhibits with a friend but she and I move at different speeds, and we just agree to split up and meet in 1-2 hours at an agreed upon spot. She's a haggler, I'm not and splitting up works better for us. times.
Life is a rush into the unknown. You can duck down and hope nothing hits you, or you can stand tall, show it your teeth and say "Dish it up, Baby, and don't skimp on the jalapeños."

I just ordered a bug killer from QVC. So far the bugs aren't too bad this year - the upside of almost no rain.

Spotted two little snakes yesterday. Identified them as nonpoisonous but their saliva may be nasty. Don't spit on me, snake.

I have a toothache.

Picked three black cherry tomatoes and a papaya.

Pain sucks.

It may not be a tooth, Susan. That's why I asked. Though I can't do any "pulling", I can still diagnose, and my consulting fee is really well-priced. Thumbs up
