Tabby those are absolutely awesome photos.
Some of mine are sending up bloom stalks now. Wonder if they will have time to open into flowers?

So here is another Orostachys that is getting ready to bloom. I don't remember which one this is!!

Oh wow, that is going to be spectacular when all the buds open. Can't wait to see that.

Has anyone ever tried to overwinter an orostachys in a hypertufa pinch pot?

Mine have been sitting out in the winter weather in raised beds. They do go dormant in the winter and shrink up to nothing. Come spring they start appearing again. : )

The flowers on my Orostachys iwarenge and O. aggregatus opened up.

I would have to pick the pot up to smell them. Forget getting down on the ground.

I finally got an Orostachys spinosus f/Semipalatinsk, Kazachstan through a winter without the slugs finding it and eating it to the ground. This one is really a beauty.

Looks a little "slug unfriendly" with all those spines.

Remember this one from Nov. 2010? See the slug trail. It ate the rest of the plant over night. : (


I put this new one in the taller raised bed, with lots of chicken grit around it. So far the slugs haven't found it. With all this rain, the slug bait doesn't work.

Sneaky slugs....

I have started putting Slugo (the one safe around pets and children) in the semp beds when it's not raining. So far so good. This time of the year it's hard to keep up with it.

Back from Big Bloomers and their selection of semps were worse than Home Depot.

Otherwise it was a FABULOUS place!!

Did find these 2 Orostachys, plus I think that is one planted in the Fairy garden bike.





O. iwarenge and O. macrophylla the tags said
