Beautiful blooms everyone.
After looking at everyone's pictures and especially Ursula's greenhouse orchids, it just dawned on me that to have beautiful multiple blooms you have to leave those keikis with the mother plant.
Lindsey and Jim congratulations on those mini Vanda's! I will have to try one of those. They look so cute and might be good to display them in my office when they bloom. Notes has 20% off promo on mini Vanda's.
Heath congratulations on making your Vanda rebloom especially after buying them from a half dead rack. I'm in love with these Vanda's right now and very very close to purchasing the $96 for 12 blooming size Vanda's from Mote's website. My co worker bought one and he lives in St. Pete, so far he is happy with his and he gave me a red one. I'm thinking of buying a couple minis too.
Ken so sad to know you gave away/sold that huge beautiful Vanda's of yours. Whoever got it must be feeling pretty happy.
Elaine I'm like you I find them less cumbersome since I decided to keep mine hanging under the oak tree. So I just spray them in the Morning and on days that I am not rushed, I soak them for 30 minutes while I do other things in the morning before going to work. I do feed them once a week and I got mine all my Vanda's to rebloom more than once in just over a year I've had them. My blue one will be on its third bloom in less than a year I've got it. I've been feeding my Vanda's Miracle Gro tomatoe feed and they seem to like it.
Why tomatoe food??? I read on a different site that some orchids lover had great success using tomatoe fertilizer. So I had one that has been sitting on my shelf unused for quite sometime, so I used them this year on my Vanda and all other orchids. They might be on to something on the tomatoe fert. For the first time since I have my no ID dens growing on my plumeria trees, They produced multiple keikis earlier this year and the older Canes have multiple spikes in some of the canes and I attribute that to my new experimental tomatoe fertilizer food, mixed with super thrive. So I think I will stick with it this year and next year do another experiment.
I will switch some orchids to regular orchid feed and super thrive and see if next year they would produce multiple spikes or not. The others I will continue with my tomatoe fert and super thrive. My co worker also gave me some "clonex" this year to try, which I did, so not sure if that played a part too.
On super thrive, I bought a huge bottle from Amazon this year and that did cut on my super thrive cost big time.
