And destined for the 'Lepers Colony Tree' out front...see the color break on the right? ..and it's from the same grower in Miami where my other two virused plants came from.

Gorgeous coloration on the "Orange", Lindsey, virused or not. Perhaps its not a virus but something caused by climate or some other condition. Unless you want to show the plant, who cares? A virused plant won't affect/infect other plants simply being in the general vicinity. At least that's what I understand. Confused

This plant came from the same greenhouse where my other virused plants came from..I think I bought about 10 from them. I tested it this morning with the kit from Agdia. I DO care, because I would like to show my plants. A virused plant in the neighborhood can indeed infect it's neighbors ..any of the sap sucking insects that are out and about can transmit a virus. Since I grow exclusively outside, controlling the insects is just not possible, as hard as I might try. ..and because of the limitations of my setup...I can't just segregate them.
I understand and accept that other folks are entitled to a different opinion.

Happy birthday, Lindsey. I hope you have the best birthday ever! Hurray!

I simply think that viruses are far more common than most people would believe and the experts in the field that I have chatted with over the years (I think they are called horticultural virologists) tell me this. I did make the statement ("unless you want to show the plant"). They tell me that the vast majority of orchids carrying one or more virus strains will never show leaf/flower defects. I can certainly understand you wanting to quarantine these "virused" plants since you and Jim (and others) show your plants. Just so I can learn something, if insects spread the virus, how does having these plants outside protect your (and others) orchids?

Ken, I don't think having them out side protects them.. I think it's more difficult growing outside. In a greenhouse you have SOME control over bugs, fungus and everything else that makes growing orchids challenging/fun. I really don't care about virus that don't show up.. but I DO care when it is staring me right in the face... and as I said earlier, it's ok if other people have a different opinion.

Well, virus-laden or not, it's a stunning color and I'm glad you've got a quarantine area out front where you can keep it.

The little C. Bow Bells x Rlc. Sweet Amy is just lovely too. I'm especially fond of the blazing birthday cake.

Happy Birthday, Lindsey! Big Grin

Happy Birthday Lindsey! Great blooms!

Elaine, I finally got an Oncidium rebloom so I'm excited about it. The Sharry Barry one that I bought from a local nursery has multiple spikes and the ones I got from my co workers are blooming as well. So now I have 4 different Oncidiums. (Sorry first photo is blurry)
