I got my first house plant, this Jade Plant, about 8 months ago. Advice from a friend was to water it weekly and let the soil dry out between waterings.

All was going well until two weeks ago when one part of the plant started drooping and then last week the base of the stem went brown and feels very weak. The other three parts seem to be perfectly fine.

Is this a watering issue or a light issue? Or is that part of the plant dead? Any and all advice please! :)

Don 't look dead to me.
What are you using for light.
Plants are like that little ray of sunshine on a rainy day.

It isn't in direct sunlight that much, mainly on a window ledge that isn't south facing.
Would it help to move it to the southern-facing side of the house?

Jade plants and other Crassulas are generally more active in winter than they are in summer (google 'succulent dormancy'), so yes, it needs that sun and that south window would be ideal. Watering rates can be tricky in winter; depending on the temperature and humidity in your home, a pot may dry out more slowly or more quickly. It's safest to use a moisture meter or wooden skewer to test the soil and make sure it's totally dry, or use the look/feel of the leaves to tell when it's actually thirsty, rather than to rely on a schedule.

It looks like you have a "pot inside a pot" set-up. Make sure the inner pot is never sitting with water underneath it in the outer pot or saucer.
It also looks to me like your potting mix is very rich with water-retaining organic material. Jade plants are succulents, they do better with a very fast-draining, gritty mix. I use a commercial cactus mix, then add even more gravel, pumice, or washed large perlite.
The pot they're in is equally important. It should have lots of drainage holes and not tend to retain water. Again, never leave the pot sitting in water.
With a fast draining pot and planting mix the roots will dry out faster, get plenty of air, and be less susceptible to rot.
Yes, that one stem looks like it's starting to rot, that's not good for long-term plant health! I suspect these were four tiny cuttings stuck in a pot, I don't think that one is rooting well.
Jade plants can take a lot of indoor light, a brighter window might be better.
Just some suggestions, I'm sure you'll hear from others too. Welcome to the forum!

Definitely needs much more light and much less water. Put it as close to the window as possible. The one stem is history, pull it out and throw it away. Soak it good when you water it and then let it get quite dry before you water it again.
If you change the soil, don't put it in a pot any bigger than the one it's in now.

Can someone help?!!

I have this variegated jade plant that started to wilt with mushrooms starting to grow inside it.

I live in southern California, LA county, weather is getting in the upper 90s and drops to mid to low 70s at night, few days ago we had temperatures in the 100s dropping to 80s and upper 70s and humidity is 50-60%

The plant receives about 5-6 hrs of sun from 2-7pm

It is planted in a plastic planter with attached shallow saucer and that placed in a decorative pot, no standing water inside at all

I'm very careful with my watering and checking for when the soil is dry, that's when I water

Can this be fixed, do I remove the mushrooms, are these mushrooms poisonous and need special handling?

Any advice will be appreciated

Steven

@Sevencs - Welcome! The mushrooms are harmless and potentially poisonous only if you eat them.

Do you have your plant inside or outside?

How long has it been in that pot? If it is recently repotted then the wilting is fairly normal. More light is better and direct sun for 6-8 hours is okay. The mushrooms may be an indicator that it is staying too wet.

Thanks for the replies, it relieved my mind

The plant is outside, front landing where it receives about 5 hrs of hot California sun

it's been re potted for over a year now in a potting mix specific for cactus and succulents, and it's been inside the decorative pot for the past couple of months or so.

I've stopped watering ever since and it looks like is recovering, the mushrooms seem to be shriveling

Thanks again Thank You! Thank You!
