Royal Sunset is a great all-around lily (whatever that means Hilarious! ). It's very sturdy with good substance. I got a bag of five as a bonus for an order. Free is good!!

Very nice color on 'Purple Marble'.
That 'Rosella's Dream' looks suspicious. Looking at buds I would say fungal but there are some strange spots on petals. Maybe both viral and fungal?

Hi Anthony
Have you made any successful crosses with purple marble?

I dunno. It could be virused in addition, but I think the obvious problem is fungal (or bacterial).

Thanks Luka and Rick. My first thought was fungal/bacterial as well, but wasn't sure.

Hi Anthony
Nothing ventured nothing gained. I didn't get any viable seed this summer using asiatic pollen. Next summer I'll try some different pollens probably some OT's and Orientals. Maybe just mix all types I have and give it a try.
Fingers crossed for you, good luck.

I might have some blooms with a few of the lilies that survived the freeze. However the rest are gradually drying up the green main stalk; also side bulb leaves or short blind stems are sort of finishing their cycle. When would it be a reasonable time to split them apart and repot them? Is this a possible mid summer chore, or bulbs prefer to have a rest in their present condition for say 6/8 weeks before being ready for handling? The freeze actually ruined mostly buds but not much below that. So I expect that the bulbs underneath should have kept growing in size. The same goes for the lesser sized multiplier side bulbs that have been developing next to the mother bulb for two seasons already. I'm eager to hear what others have to say. TYiA.

Merry Christmas to everyone here.

Arturo

Martagon section lilies (Ll. martagon, hansonii, distichum, medeoloides, tsingtauense) can grow significantly during the growing season without a stem above ground, but I don't know about other lily types. Perhaps others will know. This holds true for all their hybrids. Although it is certainly acceptable to transplant martagon section bulbs in the fall, experts say transplanting in early summer, soon after blooming yields better results. So this optimal time would be about 1½ to 2½ months after your normal last frost date.

Thank you Rick Thank You! , I'll do my martagon bulb repotting by February then. The rest are mainly Orientals and Orienpets. So while I await to hear from others, I'll get these them repotted perhaps when coldish weather sets in early March. Meanwhile I should hold back watering, to avoid rot, however keeping the soil slightly moist. Otherwise here, with our normal summer drought, the soil in the bags can reach bone dryness, something that I assume is not in the liking of the underground bulb.
