Well I made it through the iris sale, and only brought home 2 rhizomes. I got Banana Daiquiri TB and Forever Blue SDB RE.

We had a good day of sales today, A steady line of people coming and going all day. Many people buying as much as 4 or 5 hundred dollars worth of irises. That's a lot of them when we charge only $5. for TB's and $3. for the smaller ones. I was able to meet Jeanne (gardenglassgems) who came up from Iowa and get some irises. It was nice to put a face with someone on here. We had a nice chat.

So I ordered it, and of course I didn't want her traveling cross country alone, so I ordered Just Between Us, and Such A Sweetheart. So now I have a second order from Mid-America. I'm so excited about Lovely Livvy as I thought I had missed out on her for this year. I know I must be crazy.

OK, so I have this huge wishlist at Mid-America, and I was looking to see whether any of my top must-haves are still in stock and maybe I'll have a chance for the sale. I have a feeling that the reason so much is sold out already is because they had weird weather in Oregon during the growing season - Keith Keppel mentioned something to that effect - so I fear the sale may be smaller this year.

In terms of being crazy, I had a weird experience as I was looking through mid-America in contemplation of the sale. I don't have nearly so many iris as Derylin or Tom, but I'm pushing 200. Looking through all the iris on the site I felt almost queasy - the way you might feel if you went into a bakery with amazing pastries and because you just couldn't decide, you decided to buy a big box with many kinds, and then you had to eat them all... and then you realized that was so insane, and ask youself, "Why did I do that? I feel sick."

I've been trying hard not to add anything, but even with the few that *I* have coming in, I have to say I feel a bit sick.

But then I guess we ALL are.

I only have a total of 18 irises ordered, that's really small stuff considering I used to order in the hundreds each year. I did cull several irises this year along with dividing and/or thinning many more, so I don't have to get too worried about space.

I was just thinking about some of the people who bought several hundreds of dollars of irises from our sale, and wondering if they will be re-selling them for a profit. We only charge $5. for TB's and $3. for the small ones. I'm sure that many of the irises in the sale would bring more then that on the open market.

Tom, I'm sure you're right. Many of those sell for way more than $5, being intimately familiar with the Mid-America price list anyway. I'm curious which were culls from that list. I'm always interested in how one person's cull is another one's treasure.

In my case, for example, I got a wishlist iris, Color Capers, from a member who didn't like it. I love it.

What a wonderful donation to your club, Tom. You did keep back some rhizomes of those varieties for yourself, right? Which ones did you cull?

That is an enormous list of iris you took to your sale! Wow. Hope they all sold well. Some of mine, like Line Drive, went right away. Frosted Velvet was the last to go which surprised me as it is really quite pretty.
