Some nice ones today, Zoia. However, I think Take Me Along may be mislabeled.

Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Take Me Along')

It's the only photo of it I got last summer. If it's the wrong plant then that is about the sixth wrong plant that Northern Lights has sent me. And they don't answer any emails.

Wow, that's a lot of mistakes.

I've ordered from them once--for only two plants--and I got the correct ones. But I have never placed a big order.

They're usually fine but I had three years in a row with large orders and there were two wrong plants each year. However, their prices are excellent and the husky plants are pretty great too. I wouldn't write them off.

Continuing on with July 10, Middle Daylily Hill, 3:45 pm. Many flowers just got general shots, many were ruined tissue paper. The survivors are to be congratulated on their ability to withstand pounding rain.

Zoia, you have gone to a lot of trouble taking and logging all these. Great job.
If you wanted to kick it up a notch you can also record the temperature or other factors that may affect blooms. The rain is an easy one, we can see the wet blooms I love that the time-of-day is recorded, very important to gauge sun fastness after a sunny hot day .

A longitudinal study on how weather changes your blooms/patterns would then be easy to pick out from all your hard work over time. For example, you can then pick 1 cultivar and show side-by-side photos of every day it bloomed that summer and how weather affected the bloom. Double bang for your effort.

I appreciate your clump shots, as they show things such as branching and sometimes bud count. As for the items not true to name from Northern Lights, others have experienced the same. And yes, communication is not always good.

I like the temperature idea, Orion, it would be easy enough to keep track of that as I switch beds. It's amazing how much temperature affects, color, pattern, bloom shape…just about everything one can think of.

MantisOH, I am definitely a fan of clump shots ( when I have them…so many of my plants are too new to be clumps). Each summer will hopefully have more and more of those.
