Finally I was able to spend some time outside today. I pulled some grass/weeds in several beds. They are starting to go to seed so fast since it has been so dry. We are so far below normal for rain. My husband being a farmer says that next year could be really bad for farmers without the sub moisture we so desperately need.

I cut back one raised beds of Iris that I am going to dig up and only pot a few in pots to overwinter in my garage under lights. These are mainly duplicates and NOID's but I don't want to lose them completely. I have other Iris in pots with roots established that are ready to go into this bed after I add more soil. I have one other bed to do the same thing to. Plus many Iris beds that need weeded.

Thank you both. I only had a few Glads bloom this year because I got them in really late. I will have to work on earlier planting for next year. My Canna and Elephant Ears also got put in late. Hopefully, they all get planted in pots earlier next spring.

I've been working on two beds that are full of roots (ya can't have shade beds without roots, right?) to the point of snuffing the life out of my plants. I've been potting up the smaller ones. I'm going to have a lot of pots to put in the ground before winter.

I dig up my elephant ears today to dry and store. I also put away some garden tools that I'm sure I won't be needing. I'll wait a bit to drain my sprinklers. We've had a nice rain recently but it could still turn dry before a hard freeze. Gardens are getting leaf covered and ugly so I guess it's time to go inside and take care of my neglected house😁

Rose we are currently getting a steady rain since this morning. I better follow your lead and start prepping things for storage.

Same for me with the rain today... and yesterday, tomorrow and Sunday too. So I'm just getting organized with what needs to be done first when I can get back out there. Monday might be too wet to really do much too.

I took a ride around the yard to see what was going on with my plants. Picked a bunch of snapdragon seeds. I have plans to go back out to look for other seeds. Then I have to pot up some little plants I got in the mail. But I guess they don't count because they are house plants and i plan to do this in the house. I tip my hat to you. Sighing!
Happy Gardening :-)

It's been rainy and cold recently, fall is definitely taking over as the weather guessers have claimed this will be a big El Niño influenced winter. Drier and warmer than normal. Prediction - In summer 2023, a large marine heatwave occurred off the Gulf Coast of Alaska and the coasts of Oregon and Washington. The heatwave is liable to be maintained by the present El Niño into 2024; regional oceanographers are keeping track of how it is playing out. Also we have had three small earthquakes the last week of the coastal areas Wa and Oregon.

Just been out checking the status of the gopher/mole traps…set out 12 thruout the pastures.
Need to catch up on the watering system and bring all the computer connectors in and turn the garden watering system off. We are expecting the first frost Oct 27-Friday.

Will winterize the lawns with some winter fertilizer soon. Designed to treat perennial weeds and moss.
Finished gathering pine cones, virginia creeper fall color leaves and oak leaves for projects .
The leaves are starting to fall big time. Bah hum bug….mulching them all …..

A few flowers still hangin in there.

Anyone else done anything today? I'm all ears! for me, I did a bunch of weeding, cleaning up, and raking for a large wild flower patch that I'm doing. I'll be working on it for the next two days before the next cold spell. It's been abnormally warm this year!

I've been doing some cleaning up in a few flower beds. Two beds are done and I've made a dent in another. Still have a lot to do but it's going to be chilly for about the next ten days here. It feels good to get outside, doesn't it?

The weather here has been swinging back and forth. There were some great weather days last week and I started the spring cleanup. I'm mostly raking out accumulated fall leaves and cutting off ratty hellebores leaves. I'm also making an effort to confirm cultivar ids as things bloom and get new plant markers in place. I've tried various methods over the years that just don't stay in place for very long. Now I'm using slate garden markers and am crossing my fingers that this will work better. So far I've done the snowdrops and early blooming daffodils. I squeezed in two more days over the weekend before it got cold again on Monday. Very chilly day temps and down at the freezing or below freezing mark overnights. Doubt there will be any good weather gardening days for most of the week.

The wind is really blowing today and it feels so much colder than it really is. The only thing I did outside today was to water newly purchased hellebores, two shrubs, and a cherry tree that are in their nursery containers. Don't know when I'll get them planted in the ground with the weather being uncooperative.

Our local nurseries aren't open yet so I haven't made any purchases. I have spent some money online though!
