Gene ...

I talked with my doc about the guava nectar yesterday. He uses it. He's checked into on a far more scientific level than we can get through more media sources. He told me that any of the sugars used in moderation, including the guava nectar are OK. The problem is that we have too much sugar throughout our whole food chain.

If you like it and are controlling the rest of your sugar intake, it should be fine for you to use. Sugar is sugar. I think you already know enough to manage your sugar intake.

Have you checked to see if there is some nutrient deficiency causing the teeth problems?

No, my tooth problems go back to some of the things I ate as a kid that permanently weakened my teeth (one was raw lemons. I used to eat 3-4 a day,) and genetics. They will probably be the death of me in the long run. Had a friend who lost his Dad to untreated bad teeth. Bacteria, germs (whatever was in his teeth) got into the blood stream and killed his heart. Hey, lets talk about something else. Gene

RoseBlush1 - OK, sugar is sugar but 41G in one can is ridiculous. Myself, I do not drink soft drinks. If I have company, kids that just NEED one do what I do. Buy extracts from Olive Nation. They only use natural ingredients. Orange, Macadamia, Cola even, Pistachio, Cherry, Strawberry, etc. Put a few drops in a glass, add a little sweetener (very little, ) You might be surprised at how little sweetener it taeks to make a drink taste good. This month for me it is Granulated Honey, seltzer. Healthy drink that kids (and adults) love. Gene

For me, it is not the "soda pop" thing, it is the fizz that i crave. I have pretty much switched to fizzy water. Green Grin!

I like the carbonation too, Anna. A long time ago I had a little machine that made fizzy water or other drinks. I think there is still a machine out there called a "Sodastream". You can make your own:

I don't drink soft drinks either. This summer I broke down on a 100F+ day and opened a diet7up. It tasted awful ! I couldn't drink it. I could not believe I used to drink that stuff all of the time. Gag me !

I just wanted to share that for someone like you who watches their sugar intake, you can use guava nectar.

For my summer drinks, I usually use watermelon ice cubes. I can't eat a whole watermelon, so I cut it up in chunks and freeze the chunks on a cookie sheet, then bag them. The melon ice cubes give ice water a nice refreshing taste for a hot day.

For the most part, I am happy with just water.

They finished they highway construction, so I should be able to go down the mountain and get fresh produce more often. WOW ! am I looking forward to that !

That's great, Lyn.

Gene, be kind to yourself and get those teeth fixed. You're right, if they're that bad, they can make you septic or worse.

Why don't you make a trip to the dentist a Christmas present to yourself? Your loved ones will appreciate it. Your good health is a gift to them.

Do not go with Sodastream. They use some of the worst sugar substitutes available and don't like to admit it. Gene

I hate to drink water. I drink lemonade mix often in the summer and I drink watered down Gatoraid all year. Way too much sugar in Gatoraid so I add water so that it is less than half gatoraid. But I like the taste. In the winter or cooler months I drink herb teas or even bullion.

But plain water, nope don't drink plain water. I know I should.

I couldn't drink water in the city. The stuff tasted awful. Up here, the water tastes clean and simply wonderful. It has kind of a sweet taste to it and you don't need to add anything to it to get that sweetness.

It used to taste better than bottled water. However, even now, that has changed ... Sad The water departments have had to change their filtering systems due to the run off from the illegal marijuana grows that are polluting the streams and the river that are the primary source of our drinking water ... YUK !

I've put in my own filtering system, but it's still not the same. So it goes.

Our water here where I live is VERY hard..............filtered through tens of thousands of miles of sandrock (limestone) before we drink it. LOL Ok, not THAT much. But our plumber we had many years ago said that he has NEVER seen water as hard as what it is right here. But it tastes SO good and clean! Wish I could send you all a taste. But, it's hell on water heater elements, tho. Sticking tongue out

edited to add.........we do have a softener in the house, and we had one in the barn, but it only softened the hot water, not the cold. Still burned out elements. In the barn/milkhouse it was worse, because we used so much water out there for pipeline cleaning.

Our water is hard too, and we've had a whole house water softener for decades. I love my soft water, and I whine like crazy about the hard water in hotels, rentals, etc.

Our tap water isn't filtered at all, but it tastes fine to me. I have allergies and a stuffy nose most of the time and breathe through my mouth a lot. Hence, I get thirsty and drink a lot of water. I'm sipping a glass now. I like water. Shrug!

I had to look up what "hard water" was because I don't even know if I have hard water .. Hilarious! My water tastes fine and doesn't seem to leave any kind of residue on the faucets or anything, so I guess it's OK.

I do know it tastes different since they have had to make changes to purify the water due to the additional pollution caused by the dang pot grows, but it's still not bad ... or at least it's not as bad as the city water was. I think that's because we don't have to import our water from sources thousands of miles away.

We have well water in our town, it is so pure it doesn't need to be filtered and they just use Ultraviolet water purification, no chlorine, I hate the taste of that stuff....yuck. The water is hard and we have a softener on the main line, our water tastes great, and like Karen, I drink it all day and even at night, meds make me thirsty.
