grannysgarden said:Elsa, I grow Krishnaji and I hope it blooms this year. From the photos it looks like it has substance to the blooms. Crossing Fingers!

Krinshaji's bloom was so "Rose Bloom" in form and pure white. But I have only had one bloom. Hope they all are that beautiful.

The dwarfs, for many, are the warm-up act for the bigger, and often more dramatic, iris blooms. For me they are the main act. I love quite a few TB's and will always grow them but I have never met a little iris I did not like. Smiling

I am equally fond of all the different classes of bearded iris. They each hold their unique charms.

A day without an iris bloom. Sighing! I have two little ones that will be open tomorrow... I think.

Mine are cold but not frozen. It was really cold overnight but it does not seem to have made a difference except to slow down their growth. Crossing Fingers!

High winds, low wind chill temps and a hard freeze tonight. Those buds are being severely tested here.

I think Tingle is a really sweet little MDB. It has a nice rounded form and is a bright spot in the garden. It has bloomed each spring since I planted it too.

I know, Leslie. Some springs try ones soul. I hate to lose blooms and I really hate to loose whole stalks but the iris will survive to bloom again. I cant remember a spring when the weather was perfect. Even with temperatures on a more even keel thunderstorms usually batter the blooms so often it is hard to get a nice photo. I had a first time bloom last year with little buds opening every three or four days. I kept taking photos but still do not know what that iris really looks like. LOL It was beaten, splashed with dirt and looked frail and discolored. It was not the iris I ordered and I wanted a really good photo so that I could try and I.D. it. This is the best photo I took of it.

It has another little stalk on it. Will it make it or will I have to wait more years to try and get a decent photo of this iris?

It's always a disappointment when we loose some blooms in the spring, but I guess that's why we can justify having so many of them, that way we get to see so many blooms even if we still miss the ones that don't make it to bloom that year.

My philosophy exactly, Tom. Big Grin And sometimes I have the same iris planted on the south hillside and the north hillside..... just in case.

Those three little words 'just in case' covers a lot of ground. Even when a novice gardener asks me why I grow so many irises I give them a very knowing look and say 'just in case'. They just nod sagely. So, buy more irises.... just in case. Smiling

The little SDB Vanilla Dream, introduced by Dee Stewart in 2012, did open overnight. It is my first bloom from this little guy. It is a little out of shape.....

I prefer the traditional shape with three up, three down but I will take what I can get and be happy. Smiling
