Jan ~ You are becoming quite the hybridizer! I hope that you get some beauties.

I have noticed on some introductions, that with the same cross, there have been more than one introduction. Who knows what will happen, but I am excited for you! Crossing Fingers! Thumbs up

Evelyn, i was going thru and looking at some of the irises I the data base. I noticed a few irises had the same pod parent but they came out so different.

Thanks for the reminder...I'd heard about the stocking in the tank technique...wait, it was someone telling me how they cure olives! Maybe I'll try it some day.

Just quick comment on the drying of seeds. You don't have to dry them, you can plant them while they are still fresh. They should in theory germinate, with no soaking. You dry the seeds to store for a period of time. If the seeds dry fully they require soaking for 5-7 days. This is to remove a chemical that prohibits germinate. Then they need a chilling period 60-70 days. This is information that I have gathered over the years.

Thank You! Cory. I have always dried my seeds and not soaked them and then waited months for them to germinate. I think I will skip the drying part next time and hopefully my seeds will germinated much sooner.

I was wondering about the necessity of drying and cold treatment. Thanks for that tip! I tip my hat to you. Thank You!

I have one more pod still to harvest... maybe I'll try planting some of that cross out right away.

(Dang seeds... daylily AND iris... can't be starting seeds with all this travel... Glare )
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

Here's partial list of the pods that had seeds in them this year. No empty pods, but a few had one or more names that vanished from their paper labels or were unreadable:

My Beloved x Obsessed 51 seeds
In High Heels x Day On the Bay 40 seeds
Pinkity x Bon Apetit 51 seeds
Tropical Cooler x Betty Ford
Mardi Gras Ball x my seedling (creamsicle-temp name ) 40 seeds
Silk Road x Day on the Bay 34 seeds
Augustine x Mad World 14 seeds
Over Alaska x Day on the Bay 44 seeds

Forgot to count the seeds on all the following before placing them in damp vermiculite in fridge - all around 30 to 40 seeds.

Montmartre x Absolute Treasure
Augustine x Haunted Heart
I Feel Lucky x AbsoluteTreasure
Velvet Valentine x ?
Magical x ?
2 more beepods

Now if some just germinate! Hurray!

I suppose that my seeds are already dried. I could experiment and pot some up without soaking them, just water the potting medium, and soak the others and then see what happens. I will refrigerate everything and check them in a couple of months. Of course, I will have to divvy up from the same cross as different crosses have different fertility. This is good, since these are my first experiments.

That's a lot of seeds Jan. I am curious to see what your Montmartre x Absolute Treasure cross produces Thumbs up

I put aside some seeds last year from one cross and soaked them to compare with the others from that cross which were planted straight into seed raising mix without soaking. My first soaked seedling and not-soaked seedlings appeared on the same day. So far there seems to be negligible difference in germination rates too.

Robin ~ About how long from harvesting the seeds did you plant them? Did you chill them?
