I'm seeing lots of new members lately from 'other' sites that have either long-since shut down, or are having technical or financial issues that are driving their members away.

I was wondering if there was an interest in creating badges for our new family members here on NGA that would use the logo from their old hang-outs. This would give people a way to find old friends from other places and help them get to know our family here.

Your thoughts?

If enough people were interested, maybe Dave could create a badge section called "I'm here from ...." and the badges could be listed. I would be happy to do the badges if there is enough interest and Dave is able to accommodate. Although, using the actual logo might not be doable for legal reasons (@Dave ?).

I think there is a fairly normal 'settling in' period for new transplants. I came from the old Dave's Garden many years ago, and until I became familiar with this site, I double-dipped into both sites. Once I established friends on this site, my DG membership and any allegiance to that site just fizzled away.

I've never been too attracted to Houzz (it seems overwhelming to me) but have noticed a lot of Houzz rose people trying out this site. I presume there are other garden sites out there as well.

Rick, your suggestion is very welcoming to the new folks, but it strikes me as a bit 'neener-neener' to the sites they are leaving. I noted there is a thread within the rose forum where a lot of Houzz transplants are introducing themselves, identifying their old screen names, and just kind of catching up again. Perhaps that is enough.

And who would buy them badges? If they are new, they are not going to have their own acorns, and of course would hardly have a clue what they are, anyway. How would they even know there are such badges?

I certainly would never want a DG one, Dave created a wonderful site and we had some good times and memories there but it did not end well.

Agreed Sue. That's the point behind the last line of my post.

I consider this discussion to now be over as those that have responded don't think it's good idea.

Thanks all for your input.

Rick, I do applaud you for wanting to make our new transplants feel welcome. When I think of it, I will often check the 'Welcome' forum and randomly gift an acorn to new folks. It likely confuses them, hopefully in a good way.
