Loving all these photos and drooling Drooling for those that can't grow here. We are pushing the Zone already with the ones I have!

If mine could get that big in 8 years, I'll TAKE IT! It's too bad I don't have a good place in the ground for one.

cliftoncat said:Thanks, Karen. Yours is lovely, too - I especially like the closeup of the young leaves. Do you know what sort of Jm it is?

I bought it as a NOID so I am not sure what variety it is. It maybe a seedling and not a registered variety.

Dark purple red foliage in spring and summer turns darker red in fall. Leafs out later than others, avoiding frost damage. Planted in 2013, here is a 2014 photo.

Or a mutt... with known parentage? I had a boxer-shepard mix (great dog, see my avatar), I just called her a brown dog. She kind of looked boxerish until a real boxer came along, then nope.

This one is a favourite of mine - I love the shape of the leaves and the zingy colour.

Aussiedoodle is a Australian Shepherd x Poodle hybrid.

Also known as a cur, mutt or half breed:)

I think of Japanese maples as 4 season trees - such varied color change from spring to summer to fall, then a nice bare bones silouette in the winter.

@Bonehead Deb Because we get very little fall color here, and because I only have tall mature trees, I want my growing grove of JMs in the yard to provide that color at eye level.

Thanks, Mary! We had the rocks brought in by mini-crane when we were having work done that needed big equipment. No way could I have managed them! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Acer Katsura - one of my favs for autumn colours. I think the autumn colouring varies from year to year, depending on a number of factors including the weather.
