You're absolutely right, Jean; I just took a look at a thread I had started and that options box pops up for me, too. Now I'm wondering if it's just because it's the Sandbox, or if all forums are like that...

Ah ha, I think that must be it... I found a thread in All Things Gardening that I had started and it doesn't happen there.

oh Echoes - please tell me - what's a "life"? I've heard other people talk about it. Is it like "disposable cash" Rolling on the floor laughing

I was trying to think of a way to help people find friends from other websites.

Like a thread inviting people to post their old screen names, so someone could search that thread for people they knew on other websites, and find their new ATP screen name.

But how would you get many new members to see that thread, and add their old screen names?

I think the only way is to just go back to the old websites, find or email each friend, and ask "are you on ATP yet, and what's your screen name there?"

Edited to add -

I guess @Dave could add a searchable field to our ATP Member Profiles, if he thought that was wise, where we could list screen names we have used on other garden websites. But maybe that would feel like "poaching" to him.

I used to think that having "disposable cash" would be nice.

But my SO has a friend who worries all the time that she and her husband combined have "only" $500,000 in the bank. They worry that it won't let them support their housES as they should, if their current income level falls much.

Glad I don't have their problems!

I had someone contact me the other day who said they were already signed up here but couldn't login as they had forgotten the password they used and had changed email accounts so couldn't get any message from ATP as it went to defunct addsy.
Suggestions?
Also, can there be two members here that share a computer and email account or does each one need a separate email address? Or ?

If they could contact Admin, and give info only they would know, perhaps admin could help, OR, they could create a new account.
I would think that two people could share a computer and email address, if there are two different login names......
Admin - what say you?

Mariposa, at the very bottom of this page, there's a contact link. Clicking on it gets you to Dave and Tricia, who are the owners of this site. They can help your friend.

You can do the same to contact them about having two separate accounts that share one email address.

Mariposa - I had the same situation. I had joined ATP several years ago and then did not come to the site for a couple of years (busy, busy - no time for fun and games). When all the mess at DG happened, I came over here and tried to activate my old account. It would not let me in. It did not recognize my old password and my email address had changed due to retirement. So I asked and someone here directed me to the Contact button below. I sent a message to Dave and told him that I had set up a new account (under the name blakelyatstillwood), but that I assumed the old account was in the system somewhere and did he want to delete it (just to be tidy). He got back to me promptly and as soon as he asked a couple of questions to be sure I was the same person at the former account under the user name Stillwood, he proceeded to combine the two accounts. Now I am here under my older name of Stillwood and I am a happy clam.

I particularly appreciate the promptness of his reply, the efficiency with which the problem was solved, and the courtesy shown to me. I know he must be busy, but he provided excellent service. So jump down to that Contact button and Dave will fix you (or your friend) up (wait a moment - I mean he will fix your problem).
