@MoonShadows Read into it what you will.
My meaning was that what we need is support from our government for our scientific community! "Spin" doesn't get us anywhere. Give us the truth! Scientific truth!
I fully understand that the economics is a huge priority to this administration, but we, the people need scientific facts right now! Not spin!
This is not a hoax! Democrat or otherwise! BTW, not that it should matter....I'm an independent!

@terrafirma I just saw this thread and thought I would read it. Your comment jumped out as political. You didn't need to explain yourself to me. I'll leave it there.

Leu Gardens Plant sale March 14 & 15 has officially been cancelled due to the Coronavirus. Sad

Mt. Dora Art Festival also has been cancelled.

Disney, Epcot and Universal all closing at Midnight Sunday night.

I guess I'm going to get a lot of work done in the garden this weekend. Nothing else to do. Sighing!

I don't quite understand the panic, but our local schools are closed for at least 6 weeks, as are many businesses. The roads are deserted. I feel like I'm caught in some Stephen King book... But, I'm a natural hermit so won't find it difficult to just lay low until this all blows over. A bit concerned re my son who remains in Panama but is scheduled to fly home Monday, into Seattle. Seems only a matter of time before air travel is severely restricted or denied - airports are a total mishmash of folks in tight quarters from all parts of the globe.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

If the kids get it they take it home to the parents, transmissibility rate is approx 2.5. Kids may show no symptoms. Saw where Ohio, Maryland, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon and DC shut all their schools down.

So far schools still open here, Im guessing that wont last long. I totally disagree with closing them. Where do the kids go all day, its not like most parents are home. What are the ones that only get free food at school going to eat. They let these kids go to school with no measles vaccine. Just seems people are not thinking things thru. Everyone knows to steer clear of the little germ machines during flu season anyway.

They just shut down the whole TPC golf tournament here. The 144 players get to split the 7.5 million purse so that is not really so bad for them but the community is losing millions.

What people are not clear on, the problem is more than the virus, if the kids come home with it, pass it on to their parents, remember for everyone that has it, they present it to 2.5 more people, etc etc.
The elderly are most vulnerable, so they go to the hospital, prob going into the icu wards and other beds, than you come along with your average stroke, heart attack etc. No beds for you, its a compounding problem and at this point no mitigation other than isolation. When you are unable to trace where it came from, than its just about out of control. Its also why quick and accurate tests are critical to possibly stopping it.

Curious how
Gina is fairing. Just got home from Publix and it was in sad shape. No gr. beef, chicken soap of any kind, paper products of any kind, rice gone, canned tuna and such. No frozen veggies. The guy told me they are getting double truck deliveries. I should have stayed yesterday and got more things. Manager told me it was their busiest day since they opened. said they did..yes...one hundred twenty five percent more than on their next busiest day. Then... to top things off when I get nervous I start coughing Ugh OK headed to cracker barrel for some corned beef and cabbage...no potatoes or onions at grocery. Disney on Sunday before they shut down. I didnt buy that pass for nothing. Fast pass lines still backed up.

My son stopped at a a Publix to pick up some bread and said there was a line going out the door and they were already out of meat and dairy although they appeared to be trying to restock. The Publix in my neighborhood seems to still be in decent shape. They are low on a lot of stuff but still have meat, dairy and plenty of veggies.

He is in the department of surgery...the patient they got from Georgia is in the Medical ICU. Its not clear if the lady is in MICU BECAUSE of corona as a primary illness, or if she was already compromised and got infected. Surgery and Medicine generally rarely cross. Fortunately my husband is working from home today, he is supposed to be in DC sitting on an NIH Grant Review panel this weekend but it got cancelled and they are doing it by teleconference.

I imagine the Haile Publix is a lot busier than the two over here. I was at Freshmarket yesterday, they still had everything there too

The store my son stopped at was near several large 55+ neighborhoods, apparently something spooked the populace there and they were not taking any chances. My store was OK with some low inventory items but lots of restocking going on. My grandson has finally stopped coughing but I am starting. I have been coughing since the pollen started falling weeks ago but I really notice it now. I am sure it is psychosomatic. Whistling

I heard them say beside checking for fever....can you hold your breath for 10 seconds. Pretty low bar but I guess it happens to people that they cant.
