I've often thought I'd posted something too...only later noticing that I still had it open in another window. I bet I've written almost as many posts that I didn't send as ones that I have sent! Whistling Hilarious! By the time I noticed them, they were no longer relevant.

Chelle, the Palmeri never did bloom for me here. Sad

Tamara, we didn't get much for snow until after Christmas and it was very cold here before that. Many peoples' septic systems were freezing up with the cold and no snow. I'm not sure how some of my perennials did also because of that. I'm always thankful for the snow, not so much the cold. Thumbs down

Tam, was that plant a type of Fritillaria? Seems to me that I recall it looking something like this Crown Imperial Fritillary (Fritillaria imperialis 'Maxima Lutea') (?) It sure was lovely last year...whatever it is. nodding You know that if things go well I'll have extra plants to swap again this year, too.

Drat it, Sue. That's rough when you don't even get blooms from a purchased plant. This one is a long-shot for me, too; I don't have a lot of areas that can offer perfect drainage, but it's still fun to try.

Smiling

Snow is sticking to the trees from last night. It had been rain the night before & sun morning--changing to snow in the afternoon. 33° now & snow falls off the trees as the sun hits them.

Not much snow here, and none of what we do have is fresh, but there was no wind today so I took a walk in the woods. There wasn't much in the way of spring green showing, but I did see some deer...
Thumb of 2013-02-25/chelle/cce980

...and in the trees down by the lake, a red-winged blackbird was enthusiastically making his presence known. The song sparrows are singing merrily, and the shrews are doing their peculiar, circular happy-dancing in our yard.

I did notice buds on some of the roses near the lake, and a few bulbs peeking up on the sunny side of the house. The kale and spinach I started last fall appears to have wintered over. It sure will be nice if it truly did!

We're supposed to get a substantial amount of freezing wet stuff for the next couple of days, so I think I might direct-sow some more cool weather, hardy annuals seed today while there are still spots of bare ground showing.

It is warm today but poured all night and still raining some now so I can't really even take a walk around the garden. I am so ready for spring to come and things to start growing.

I added lots of new bulbs to the southside rose garden so it should look truely nice this spring. 500 large flowered crocus, some hyacinths and a fair amount of tulips. It already had some tulips and daffodils that come up each year so now it just should be more pretty than usual.

Happy birthday, Tam! Hurray! It sounds like you have a great day planned.

I got some really good end-of-season sale stuff there last year, but I had no idea that they dealt in spring plugs! We've also enjoyed their Pumpkin Fantasyland for the past couple of years. Thumbs up

Nothing new to report in the gardens here at the moment. Although just as soon as we get a day or two in a row of clear weather, I want to start putting together some latticework trellises that I didn't get done last year. The newer clematis will likely need them this year.

Thinking of spring. I just ordered 4 o'clock tubers from Easy To Grow Bulbs. I have ordered those tubers there before and they always do well for me. I like four o'clocks. I have some each year that self sow but I want to plant the tubers in some spots where I want those 4 o'clocks to be growing for certain.

I've never grown them, but I do have a few seeds on hand.

I think the only way you can get the tubers is in mixed colors. I always end up with some solid flowers and some of those broken colored ones. I really love the broken colors.

Another day of high 60's-70 degree. I misplaced my camera a couple of weeks ago and have not been able to take any photos. I am a little envious of the rain (but not the cold and snow) some of you have been getting - we have had the driest Jan/Feb in decades here - about 2 inches worth.

Galanthus and hellebores are blooming, along with a few irises. Quince bloomed in time for Chinese New year, and the witchhazel is past it's prime.
