I agree with Neal. Your tulips are great Dirtdorphins. I am especially pleased as I planted many of the ones you show last fall and am looking forward to seeing them in my own garden,. Stressa, Scarlet Baby, Heart's Delight and Ancila are all new for me.

Lots of hope for future blooms here. My front yard near the trellis has daffs and tulip foliage up nicely.

gemini_sage said:Gorgeous pics Dirtdorphins! That first one with the Daffs, Scilla, and Sedum is stunning- love that combo! The touch of red on the Sedum makes all 3 primary colors in the grouping in such a beautiful and subtle way. Are you in Colorado?

Close, other side of the rockies...Utah

Thanks Neal.
(I love that sedum in all four seasons. It's lime-green with my Diablo nine-bark is nice in the summer and outstanding in the fall...and it works well with my summer purples and blues and pinks while it holds the slopes in the boulder garden. It's such a dang thug that I won't put any in the new rock garden, even though it rips out easy enough. I am ripping it out of enough places already Hilarious! )

Dirt, I love the pictures of your tulips against the background of the rocks, they look like they're in their natural habit in the desert of the Middle East somewhere.

Rita, your blooms are coming along nicely.

I picked some blooms this evening when I got home, I'll be taking them to work tomorrow.

I have a bulb that was given to me six or seven years ago. It has not multiplied but comes up every year. I do not know what the plant is and no one around here recognizes it. I thought perhaps if I take a picture and post it here some of you with such a vast knowledge of bulbs may surely be able to tell me what it is. It has dull green fleshly leaves that are deeply grooved and twist. It has a bloom stalk and I am going to try and protect it from tonight's low temps. This will be the first time it has bloomed.

It does not smell like an allium but it may be one that does not have that distinct smell. Any suggestions will be helpful and I will investigate further based on what I learn here.

Hi Marilyn, my Parrot tulips are from Colorblends. They seem to have the best colors. This is my 3rd year growing them, they're one of my favorite tulips.

Thanks Dianne, the tulips are doing really well this year.

Bonnie, I don't know what kind of bulb that is, based on the leaves. I look forward to seeing what's going to bloom. I'm glad you've gotten a bloom stalk after all this time.

I love the parrot tulip mix from Colorblends the best. I feel it is the nicest out there. Very expensive though.

I really hope not to get lots of bulbs this coming fall. we will see if I can resist. But I am so tired of the planting and planting and planting each fall.

Over the years my number of bulbs ordered have decreased significantly, I'm now down to mostly refreshing the tulips, but if I have the energy, I may start pulling them up and storing them after they've gone dormant.

I'm getting to the point where some of my daffodils are starting to get crowded, so I'll have to see if they start having less blooms and divide them to spread them around in other areas.

You probably get 100 or more of these. Thumbs up

I'm thinking of only getting 25 to keep the costs down, if I can get any before they sell out this year. When did you get yours? I want to make sure I can go to their site when they're back up.

Bonnie, your mystery plant has me curious! My first thought was some type of onion/garlic/leek too, but I think most would have at least some onion scent. Looking forward to seeing the bloom!

Annette, have you had those parrot tulips for 3 years? From time to time I've had some novelty tulips surprise me and return for several years, which is why I'm wondering. Had some late doubles several years ago from a box store that were great perennials. Only problem was they were mislabeled (they were supposed to be deep pink/red with white edges, but were lavender), so I've never been sure what they were. I love those fat buds on the doubles, and of course those full blooms!

Hi Neal, the Parrot tulips are new, I order them every year, I have not had them come back in areas that they've been planted. I do have Pink Impression, Sancere, La Courtine and Gudoschnik that have returned.
