Welcome! YardenMan

Yes, please put more info into your profile. It really helps with information sharing.

While we are a very congenial group, we do have our share of whackos! Isn't that right Robin and David? Whistling (But we're the fun kind of whackos)

One of the things you're going to like is our seed and plant swaps. We actually get together as a group to swap seeds and plants a few times during the year. We have a seed swap coming up in January '17 in Frederick, MD. More details will be posted once the start coming together.

We also have a plant swap planned for the spring in New Jersey (near the bridge) and in the fall in Derwood, MD (near Rockville/Gaithersburg). Again, information will be posted as those times draw near.

Once you get comfortable with us, I think you'll find yourself stopping by just to see what kind of chatter there is. Don't be shy and jump in anytime!

Hilarious! Who, me? Whistling

Actually just had the mom of one of my daughter's classmates come by with her older brother--he's a junior and his Eagle Scout project is to create a Monarch Waystation--you could tell she was sort of torn between 'cool' and 'whacko' in her assessment as I showed her around my garden, talked about Monarchs, and so on. Hilarious!

Life is "mind over matter". If I d
Yardenman--
I did not yet jump in to welcome you officially.
Do we even go anything on here--officially???

I spend more time on the "C" (computer) every day than I should, but I love reading
all the Posts, the opinions and the Q and Answers.
What an education one gets being on this site!
I was on DG since 2003, but the, as most of my Pals started fleeing over to ATP (now NGO)
it started feeling lonely over THERE on DG. I still miss it....but I now spend most of my time here.

The best thing to me is that--when I get on this site--everything is already there.
The new posts awaiting me. Notice if I have any Tree Mails (private Posts between
two members)---Notice of new members arriving...YES!!!!! etc...etc...I do not even have to
search to get to any of these. It is ALL there just awaiting a click of the mouse..

SO--- Welcome! Welcome! I live in NE Baltimore Co. in "White Marsh"--
or "Nottingham" as it is now called--Or--"Perry Hall" as I prefer to call it
cause I have lived there for 47 yrs. now. Original owner of a house here.
Just down the street from PH Sr. High.

Once more--Glad to have you join this wacko group. Gita

I do not know how I happened opon the Forum by DAVE on
"How We Got here" It sure is an interesting read.

Since we now have so many new members here--perhaps you would
find it interesting on how the MAG started. Seems--it was not all that simple.
Most of us older members kind of lived through it when it was being "birthed"... Please read this. Most of it is from 2014 when all this started.

I clicked to "WATCH" this thread. Be interesting to hear how the newer
members we have now --got here.....Please share your story.

I am so glad you are happy here @Gitagal. It makes me smile every time I see one of your posts. You were so apprehensive about moving from your little safe place at DG. Well, my dear, this is a much safer place. We love having you here. Have a great day.

Life is "mind over matter". If I d
JB--
Now that Dave has rearranged the whole site--again--I am, once again,
very stressed and uncomfortable.
Those more familiar with all the computer stuff are just breezing through it.
Not me. I just find the "You have X-# of new posts and that is all I can
add to.
I hope, in time, I will--once again find my way to all the things I enjoy taking part in here....
My old brain does not deal too well with new stuff...... Gita

I too am a bit confused but I left the page just as Dave put it and find that it is not that difficult to get around. I do not spend the time on here most people do, so I am just going with the flow. I hate change, but as you get older you just have to accept what you can't change. That is me now. Rolling on the floor laughing I figure if I get too lost, I will just yell HELP! I do miss the old format and am sorry we had to change. I hate those big pictures at the top and would like them to go away, other than that I am o.k. I miss the pretty pictures that used to be at the very top. I read the how to change your page but I am not in the mood to stress over that, so I will just pretend they are not there. Thumbs up

More thanks for all the Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

This is such a great place. I should mention that I subscribed to Gardeners For All magazine while it existed back in the 90s. I liked it better than Organic Gardening magazine after Mike McGrath ruined it with sarcasm and attempts at humor.

After that, I joined an early streaming/scrolling internet gardening site. My first post there was to a post where someone asked about new ways to improve their compost pile. I suggested going out and peeing on it every night.

I've been an organic gardener here for 30 years now. I'm not perfect. I've used Roundup through the fence to try to keep back the neighbors poison ivy. But nothing synthetic has touched my garden area in all that time and I use corn gluten fertilizer on the lawn.

My use of WOW is restricted to the established flowerbeds, and when grasses infest my flowerbeds I use my leverage fork to pull them up gently and follow the roots to the source.

I used to plant mostly perennials, but most perennials really "aren't" and I got tired of replcing them. Annuals bloom longer, I have space indoors under lights to start a couple 100 square feet, and I am dividing the long-lived perennials this year to fill in spots. My 3 Sedum Joys could easily become 9 and I have so many hostas I could start a nursery.

I have 2 dozen azalea shoots growing from 2 years ago and they will take over a whole corner of the yard next year.

I am debating whether to release my NH-originated Snow-on-the-mountain into the back yard. They are currently enclosed in a landscaping box they can't escape (surrounded by house, driveway and sidewalk).

I could go on, but I should stop.

THAT surprised a lot of people, but it makes sense. Moisture, minerals, and urea are good for compost piles in moderation.

Welcome! To the all the new people. Sorry, we've been on vacation for 2 weeks, with the lap top in the shop, and no wi-fi Thumbs down the second week. I love all the changes to ATP and hope to navigate through them soon. Smiling
