At a local plant sale at University of Delaware I was able to buy remotely Salvia 'Amistad' and Salvia confertiflora. They were at a reasonable price and there was no shipping cost. I'll pick them May 19! Normally I try to grow my salvias from seeds bu I couldn't resist.

I did have a hard time choosing between Amistad and Amante. I chose Amante because I didn't have a salvia that color.

Placed an order tonight at Almost Eden. Shipping May 25.

1 Salvia Roman Red (Salvia darcyi x S. coccinea) 4.5 inch Pot
1 Salvia Rockin® Fuchsia 3.5 inch Pot
1 Lantana 'Bandana Cherry Sunrise' 3.5 inch Pot

In their email confirmation, it says I selected May 25 as my preferred shipping week, but that was their first week they had available. Because I waited so long to order and with all the online orders people are making, that's the week I'll get them. I would have liked the previous week before that (May 17), but that's life this year.

Glad to see you ordered from two of my favorite companies! Select seeds is shipping my seeds, but I haven't received notice of the plant shipping date yet. I got a candy corn cuphea and three salvias from them, Heat wave glimmer, Amante, and skyscraper orange. I was told to select a date at Almost Eden, too, it's supposed to be next week. I'm getting a turks cap and a brugmansia, Jean Pasko, from them. It's still fairly cool here, so no problem with planting them out.

gardenfish said:Eric, here's a pic of my Black and Blue. As you can see, it's clearly purple. In the plant world, what's often called a "blue bloom" is really purple. Tip; look for the words "true blue".
Thumb of 2020-05-04/gardenfish/c37bb0

There are few plants that produce true blue blooms. The ones I know of are delphiniums, larkspurs, forget me nots, some muscari, some hyacinth, borage, echium and a few salvias. Despite the hype, there is no true blue rose.

I visited the local garden center and got some plants for the pollinator garden, to include Salvia guaranitica 'Black and Blue'. I gave them to my wife for Mother's Day. She seemed to be genuinely quite excited. The other 2 plants were Asclepias tuberosa and a Coreopsis hybrid.

After two weeks of seeing the plant I wanted online at inflated prices Lowe's has it today. The plant is saucy wine salvia. Had to spend about three bucks extra because it was in a hard plastic pot, but there maybe three plants in it.

That's great Eric. I'm happy for you.

I've been wanting to grow the Saucy varieties, since they were introduced, but never found them in my area of KY.

Received an email from Romence Gardens the other day (May 9) and they said it would be by the end of this month for shipping, since they have so many orders to fill and ship. Good thing the plants only have to go from Grand Rapids, MI to Northern KY. Thumbs up

My Lowe's had all three saucy colors. It's weird because the plants are smaller but being sold same price as the larger ones a few months back were selling. Each pot has about three though. These salvia get pretty large too.

I just got my order from Select Seeds yesterday via UPS. Plants arrived in the best shape I've ever seen from an one line company. They have a unique packing system, they take the pots and enclose them in little types of snap together sleeves, I'll need to post a pic later to show y'all, so y'all can see for yourself. I had a bloom on one plant. They're small but very healthy. This order came all the way to Arkansas form Connecticut. Came in three days. Ready to plant now. I got a cuphea candy corn, plus three salvias, a black eye Susan vine, and a dianthus for a friend. The salvias are very robust, and I think there's a good chance they will bloom this year.
In the garden, I noticed blooms coming on my Brenthurst and lady in red.

I made a final trip to a local garden center and found some nice salvia 'rockin blue suede shoes' for <$5, so I went ahead and bought one to try in my last open garden space. I noticed a couple garden trials showed this salvia kinda crapping out later in the season, which is the opposite of what usually happens to salvias. I hope to get a different result.

I ended up getting a saucy coral salvia so i now have all three colors. I will have to pot them in much larger pots since there are about three in a two gallon pot. Will see h ow it grows in the small pot.
