I was walking through the mall the other day and passed a shoe shop. I saw a mother with her teenage son apparently shopping for him some shoes. As I passed by I heard her say, "Well, does it fit...or not?".

Today, I filled one of my grow bags with my own mixture of compost, clay, horse manure compost, this grow bag is now ready to grow cucumber. Maybe I will start sowing at the end of Jan/ early Feb. can't wait for cucumbers.
Bush beans are next, I need some vegetables after the greens are gone.

@BetNC , you be mighty careful up that way (along with everybody else up your way). I saw that Flat Rock got noted for a 15+" snowfall!!!!! And, I can't tell for sure, but it looks like it ain't over yet!!!!

I hope 5,000 years from now some archaeologist don't dig you out of a glacier!!!!!!! Be sure and keep some watermelon and tomato seeds in your pockets just "in case"....it would be cool (no pun intended) for them to see if the seeds are still viable!!!

Ed, no need to caution me to be careful . . . did you take note of my first pic? The one that showed how MUCH I got my front door to open . .. even with the snow still falling?

I actually live in Flat Rock, so today my door can't even open an inch with me kicking it!

Maybe some kind soul will come and shovel me out. . . thankfully, I got LOTS of hot cocoa and it's forecasted to warm up (and melt!) in a few days. . . .

I'm ve done plenty of those ballet on ice contortions! Nope, don't want ice for sure! Everything here stops when we get ice, and I mean EVERYTHING. You just can't drive on ice, and the ditches are full of wrecked cars whose fool drivers thought that driving on ice was the same as driving on snow or in rain.

Might have mentioned our library patron who is a weather addict. She tells us exactly what istes to go to for detailed weather information- which is so much better than us guessing all the time. anyway here's one we're using lately:

Yeah, Flat Rock. I think it's incorporated and has its own police/sheriff department, doesn't it?

Maybe we need to get the Coast Guard to fly in a chopper, lower a guy down on a rope and kick your door in for you? You could hang out a window with your phone and record it all...it'd go viral!!!!!

As long as the electricity and gas (if used) stays available all is well, just hunker down. A good stash of summer canned veggies goes a long way for survival!!! So does canned pork-n-beans, vienners, sardines, beef-jerky, chocolate ding-dongs, and beer!!!!

Things to do for the next few days... Crank phone calls. The current generation has no idea about "Do you have Prince Albert in a can..." or "This is the power company, can you check and let me know if your refrigerator is running?....". (P.S. I just know about this from reading about it on the Internet. )

I agree, I don't care how experienced a winter-driver is...nobody can drive on ice with regular tires. Even with chains it's still extremely hazardous! Ya'll be careful out there!!! The National Guard is starting to pull out from here now....

Sally, you're right on the edge or already inside of that big storm...how is it?

Ed, I'm on the edge.. WITH THE STORM only, tee hee.. we got an inch or two of snow followed by freezing rain, then rain.. temps actually rose thru the night.
The roads here in 'Suburbiaville Town' get sprayed with salt before storms and should be fine. Mark just shoveled the driveway and that looked like an inch of slush.. shoveling water almost.

My 'young adult' friend's household was stuck home with mild COvid, I texted and asked if they need any basic supplies, for example, ramen noodles, OJ, vodka.. just the essentials..

We got rain this morning, that is enough excitement for us here, I hope my seeds will sprout.

I think I see what the problem is - we have a "Flat Rock" just a few miles from where I live; obviously the elves at the North Pole (who, as everyone knows, are in charge of portioning out snow when they aren't busy making Christmas toys) got a little confused about which Flat Rock to send the snow to...

snack-size assorted chocolate bars
chocolate-covered raisins

I've been struggling with the hydroponic tank, losing plant after plant (Well, I did accidentally cook some early on, but have been everything right since I replaced them) and not knowing why. So I finally just said --- something not very nice --- and shut it down. Yesterday and today, I moved everything that's still growing into the compound. Except the parsley and soup celery, which will move tomorrow after I harvest the mature leaves.
I did get some greens from time to time, and the little carrots and beets are growing, so that's okay.
But mostly, it's just been a really frustrating winter season.
Might be moving to town next year, so I'm not even making plans.
Bummer!

Vera, that sounds pretty disappointing on the hydroponics. I've been tempted to try but not sure I'd dedicate myself enough for good results.
(though, the cats have shown that they do not like the fountain I got for them so I now have a tiny recirculating pump I could use..)
And moving to town sounds like a life changing decision for you..
