My 'Josephine' is only about 4-inches tall. I somehow doubt that I will see blooms from this Clematis this year. I don't know if I will ever order Clematis Mail-Order again! I did not receive
large clematis this year at all - I had better luck shopping for them at LOWE'S and HOME DEPOT.

Alan, depending on how obsessive a collector you become, you might run out of varieties at the big box stores! With a little patience, I think you will be posting some pretty blooms next year.
Lots of blooming action this morning after all the rain this week.

Beautiful clematis blooms! Sure is inspiring me to get more clematis into my gardens. Picked up four more yesterday on a nursery hopping road trip to Lancaster, PA yesterday with a friend. Saw unbelievable clematis variety offered at Black Creek Nursery at really decent prices. It was so hard to choose! I initially picked up three, but after we got the car loaded and saw there was a teeny tiny bit more room left, I headed back in for a fourth Green Grin! Hopefully I'll have loads of blooms to share photos next year, although the few clematis that I already have seem to be pretty far behind blooming schedules than what I see on this thread. What a difference it makes being a bit more north.

Zone 8 makes a difference. Even the difference between type 2 and 3 are just a few weeks.
What did you buy aspenhill? I found locally some healthy Henri, Jackmanii and Ramona for $14.99.

Here is 'Dr. Ruppel' which also opened today - but it doesn't look like Dr. Ruppel to me ....it looks
more like Westerplatte!

Wow! Great varieties!
You're right Alan. That doesn't look like Dr Ruppel. Where did you buy it ? What other varieties were nearby?

Anna, it's funny, I bought the so-called 'Dr. Ruppel' at LOWE'S, and it was the only variety they had. So I picked it up. The photo doesn't do it justice, it looks like Westerplatte and it is gorgeous.
I just love it, so in many respects I'm glad it didn't end up being 'Dr. Ruppel'. LOL. nodding
