I haven't baked anything yet but plan to do a few things on Friday for Saturday get together in Des Moines. I found out today that I am going to take 2 dozen deviled eggs and a dessert. I am going to also make a couple kind of cookies. DH likes having cookies and milk at night before he goes to bed, and he is out of them.

I went shopping today for clothes and picked up a couple Amaryllis, an indoor Hyacinth, and a package of 4 Paper Whites. They are all in their soil so I can't wait to see how they do. They were marked down to $3.99 each and couldn't resist trying them. I sure hope they grow and survive.

Most of my gifts are wrapped, just need to clean house and sometime over the weekend bake a Butterfinger cake. I'll start cleaning house hopefully Fri. I have 2 more 10 hour days to knock out before I come close to even wanting to get stuff done.

I might not be baking but I will be making Ham Balls, Country Fried Steak, Ham, Meatloaf, chili, etc. Busy week ahead

We're having a traditional Christmas dinner, a 9 lb. beef brisket . I don't know what the fixins are.

My dishes are for 4 different meals plus sides on 3 of them.

Good morning. Cloudy this morning but heading to close to 50. A trade-off I guess. Might get rain tomorrow. Doesn't look like a white Christmas for us but then we only ever have a 40% chance from year to year. Yes, heading into the cooking marathon. Polish dinner on Christmas eve, including soup, and then thinking about beef tenderloin for Christmas Day but not sure yet. DH made 3 different cookie recipes yesterday. I couldn't work in the kitchen until he was done so I only made one recipe - little coconut tarts with chocolate ganache. Kinda like a Mounds bar.
Ginny - Those cookies look fantastic. Can I have the recipe??? Nice that you'll have family at your place for the holidays. DD and her family coming down from MI on Monday morning and will stay a couple of days.
Pepper - you have to work 10-hour days? Hope you get enough time off to enjoy the holidays!
Jim - pretty cool that you have greens still growing. I noticed a kale sprig sprouting where I didn't pull the roots when harvesting last summer.
Jeanne - funny that you go shopping for clothes and bring home plants.

On my other gardening forums, I'm well known for trying to cover it all. I've been dittoed a lot, lol! I just miss a few days in a row once in a while and then I've missed a lot myself.
If I set a package like that out it would spray dye all over the person. I get so angry at the videos of people walking up and stealing off porches.

I have the Coopers show up occasionally. They'll hop right around shrubs and hedges up by houses to reach a bird. Once I had a peregrine eating a bird in the garden but didn't have time to get the camera as DH scared it off by moving too close to the window.
Mom and Grandma never made the toffee, but I love it! We did have peanut brittle.
Oooh, a whole lot of cooking at your place!

I used to really clean house before company, but it's just my Dad and Daughter and family. My house is still cleaner than both of theirs, lol, so I'm off the hook.

Another reason not to live in too big of a city - people stealing from your porch.

Sally, the mourning doves here nest in our cedars, which are quite dense. I assume they sleep there too. Hummingbirds and several others nest there too.

I could never live in a big city for that reason and many others.
If it were earlier the blackbirds would be singing like it was spring.

My neighbors had pine trees, but the sparrows, finches, and blackbirds dominated them. My neighbor a block over has pine trees too. Maybe they stay there. The cedars are mostly in the timbers and those start a mile and a half out of town. Interesting. I've never thought about where they are staying. We have two businesses in town that dry corn so there is no lack of food for them in both ends of town.

Sally, we have cedars out front and along one side in back. The mourning doves all seem to nest out front. The other birds nest in both locations, but predominately out back, where we broadcast the birdseed. The birdbaths are out back as well.
